Justin Kujawski was appointed Principal Double Bass of the Shreveport Symphony in 2019. Before coming to Louisiana he served as Acting Assistant Principal with the Alabama Symphony. He has also performed with the Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin Symphony Orchestras as well as the Dallas Opera Orchestra and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. He is a founding member of the Denton, TX based ensemble collective Nu Atmospheres, a group dedicated to the performance of newly commissioned works. He was a member of the New Juilliard ensemble and the Axiom ensemble, with whom he toured to to Switzerland performing a program of works by American composers at the Tonhalle in Zurich, as well as the Indiana University New Music Ensemble and the Holographic Ensemble. Justin studied with Eugene Levinson at the Juilliard School (BM) and Bruce Bransby at Indiana University (MM) where he was also an Associated Instructor. He studied privately with Joseph Conyers and with Jeff Bradetich at the Pirastro String Elite Soloists program. He was a Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and a Principal at the Pacific Music Festival, Castleton Festival and the Moritzburg Festival Academy. Away from the bass Justin enjoys rock climbing, cooking and card games.
