High School Composition Contest

The 2020 NMB High School Composition Contest is meant to give emerging composers the opportunity to have their music heard in a public format and to inspire those with such an interest to create music. The winning composition(s) will be performed at some point during the New Music on the Bayou festival which runs June 4 - 6 in the north Louisiana region. Pieces will be performed by students and faculty from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Louisiana Tech University. The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2020. Eligibility 

Open to all Louisiana high school (or equivalent) students.

 

Submission Requirements 

  • Music must be written for any of the following instruments or any combination of them:

    • Flute

    • Bb Clarinet

    • Saxophone (alto or tenor)

    • Trumpet

    • Trombone

    • Euphonium

    • Tuba

    • Piano

    • Percussion

    • Jazz ensemble up to sextet (bass available; no guitar available)

  • Music must be an original work, not an arrangement or transcription.

  • Scores must be submitted online as a PDF file.

  • Scores must be computer generated and show transposing instruments as written.

  • Applications are accepted from March 1 - April 15, 2020.
